2019 Claude Monet Wall Calendar

Author: Monet, Claude

Description: I am following Nature without being able to grasp her. —Claude Monet Claude Monet (French, 1840–1926) worked tirelessly to capture fleeting moments and sensations on canvas. The brisk seaside air at a Saint-Adresse resort. Sunrise reflected on the rippling Seine. The play of color and light on his beloved lily pond at Giverny. Although his style would change and mature over the course of his long career, Monet’s interest in how we perceive nature is ever present in his paintings. His desire to record his perceptions in the open air, in his own style, led him to reject rigid rules of subject matter, composition, and color. Along with likeminded artist-friends Édouard Manet, Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, and others, Monet laid the foundation for impressionism, one of the most influential art movements in recent centuries. This calendar draws its superb images from the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
