Edward Hopper’s paintings revolve around light, capturing its quiet solitude and warmth, often filtered through long shadows and early or late sunlight. “I am… trying to paint sunlight without eliminating the form under it,” he said. This collection showcases the light that fascinated him, illuminating New England’s land, sea, and indoor spaces with geometric precision. While Hopper spent most summers in New England, he was born in Nyack, New York, studied at the New York School of Art, and wintered in Greenwich Village, producing works rich in rural, seascape, and city life studies.
