Criss Canning, one of Australia’s foremost still-life artists, has devoted over fifty years to depicting flowers, textiles, and decorative objects. Residing in a charming 1860s farmhouse with adjacent gardens at Lambley near Ballarat, her husband’s love for gardening continually inspires her work. Her paintings vividly capture the garden’s vibrant poppies, irises, and sunflowers, as well as Australian natives like banksia. A connoisseur of jewel-toned glassware and vintage kimonos, Criss’s artistic world is brought to life through new photography by Eve Wilson and essays by Georgina Reid, Jenny Zimmer, Julie McLaren, and Criss herself, illustrating how art reflects life’s beauty.
