This new title in New Holland’s award-winning Green Guides series investigates the fascinating subject of Australia’s marine mammals, including the likes of dolphins, whales, seals, sea lions and dugongs. The structure of this book is similar to that of other titles in the series. Fact panels cover interesting aspects of the subject, including what these animals eat, where they live, how they stay warm, their migrations, and why some whales grow to such an enormous size, being the largest animals ever to have existed. Other sections cover conservation of marine mammals and practical advice about where and how to watch them. Meanwhile identification spreads cover all the key species and families which occur around Australia, including the commonly seen Bottlenose Dolphins, Humpback and Southern Right Whales and Australian Fur Seal, alongside mysterious and barely known cetaceans such as Ramari’s Beaked Whale and stragglers from Antarctica like Leopard Seal. The many beautiful images are taken from the author’s own collection, which has been built up over many decades.
